Historical heritage
Anglès is a town with a long history and heritage
that dates back to 30,000 years ago!
The Viscounty of Cabrera
The Viscounty of Cabrera was one of the most important feudal lordships in Catalonia from the eleventh until the nineteenth century. It covered the area from Palautordera to Anglès and from Vall d’en Bas to the coast, between Arenys de Mar and Blanes.
A network of castles and forts acted as the headquarters of the medieval nobility’s political and military power.
This defence system was complemented by the presence of various walled towns, such as the old Anglès Castle.
The Viscounty was made up of various parishes and their respective churches and hermitages. In Anglès, these include Sant Pere Sestronques Hermitage and the old castle chapel, now known as Sant Miquel Church.
