Natural heritage

An important part of the identity of Anglès is its natural environment, characterised by the stream bed of the River and its proximity to the Guilleries mountains.

The gateway to the Guilleries

The Guilleries massif constitutes the western limit of the Anglès Valley and is bordered by the Sau and Susqueda reservoirs, connected to the River Ter. Various routes on which you can explore its sumptuous natural landscapes on foot or by bicycle are accessible from Anglès.

The town also acts as a gateway to the Guilleries mountains thanks to the El Pasteral reservoir, the first in the Congost del Ter (gorge), followed by the Susqueda and Sau reservoirs.

There is record as far back as 1779 of a weir made of bundles of sticks existing here. . In 1885, the Burés family began work on a large dam to supply water and electricity to their factory. In 1905, the dam provided energy to towns and villages in La Selva and L’Empordà. In 1960, the Hidroelèctrica de Catalunya company renovated the dam, so that it could supply water to Barcelona.
