Historical heritage

Anglès is a town with a long history and heritage
that dates back to 30,000 years ago!

Prehistory

The oldest proof of human presence in Anglès is the Diable Coix settlement, an outdoor site from around 30,000 years ago, in the Upper Palaeolithic period. An abundance of carved stone was found there.

Close to the River Ter, in the municipality of La Cellera, you will find the The Pasteral Cave, where various neolithic burial sites from between 4500 and 4000 BCE have been identified. Fragments of skeletons, grave goods including ceramic vases, flint blades and pointed bone tools have been recovered there.

A Bronze-Age cremation site

The cremation site found in the Burés factory dates back to early in the Iron Age, around 600 BCE. It is one of the most significant funerary sites in the area.

The site was discovered in 1888, when the second unit in the Burés factory complex was being built. Plumbing work inside the factory in 1954 and 1955 led to more findings, consisting of more burial sites and 42 ceramic vases used as funerary urns to hold offerings or the ashes of the deceased.

Items made of bronze and iron were also found, including a cooking pot and adornments like bracelets and a chain.
