Can Cendra

Can Cendra is a large house located on Carrer d’Avall owned by Tomàs de Cendra i Terrades, an important landowner and manager of the Burés factory.

In the early twentieth century, the Cendra family commissioned architect Rafael Masó to renovate and extend the medieval house, built in the fifteenth century. The reorganisation work on the house and its surroundings between 1913 and 1916 produced a building in the Noucentista style – a cultural movement in Catalonia in the early twentieth century – with a front-facing gable roof and a garden on Carrer de Girona, where the opulent entrance to the piano nobile of Can Cendra was located.

One of Can Cendra’s most notable features is the Noucentista decoration on its façade, characterised by floral sgraffiti, wrought iron balconies and eaves adorned with glazed ceramic. The garden, meanwhile, featured a magnificent wrought iron fence, a pond, fountains, paving stone steps and brick seats.
