Historical heritage

Anglès is a town with a long history and heritage
that dates back to 30,000 years ago!

Anglès old town

The town of Anglès, which has been preserved to this day and officially named a Cultural Asset of National Interest, was formed around its castle, of which barely any remains are still visible today.

In the twelfth century, the viscounts of Cabrera ruled from Anglès Fort: a strategic spot from which they could control the River Ter. In the thirteenth century, the town had a licence to hold a market and two main streets: Carrer d’Amunt (now called Carrer Major) and Carrer d’Avall. The buildings that gradually appeared around these streets are testament to the many architectural changes that occurred over the centuries, from the Gothic period to the Renaissance of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
